Kate van der Sluis FREC CertIHR Co-Founder & Director 

Kate is a qualified consultant (BA Hons/FREC/HRi) with a degree in English and Psychology and over 20 years’ experience advising private and public sector organisations across Yorkshire and the Humber. 
 
She is the founder of Humber HR People, a HR Business which supports SMEs to grow people and profit, employing a specialist team that work from two offices in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. 
 
Kate is a firm believer in the power of community, and in local, sustainable supply chains that benefit and stimulate regional economic prosperity.  
 
Having moved to East Yorkshire in 2009, Kate is passionate about her adopted home as a place to live, work and invest. She has a particular interest in female entrepreneurship, neurodiversity in the workplace, education and skills, and outside of work enjoys time with family and wild swimming. 
 
 
 

Kellie Calvert MHRM, MCIPD Co-Founder & Director 

Kellie has over 25 years of experience in HR within the UK, Europe, and the US, including automotive, transportation, tech, retail, and leisure sectors, combined with over five years of experience as a business owner, which means not only is she passionate about creating great places to work, she also understands the very real challenges SME’s face.  
 
Kellie knows first-hand the challenge of balancing commerciality with being a good employer and believes people are the biggest asset to any organisation, and when you get the balance right, great things happen.

Sarah Carvill Business Manager 

Sarah brings over 34 years of versatile experience across various sectors, including oil and gas, chemicals, and renewables. With a background in marketing, she has successfully enhanced brand awareness and supported strategic communications initiatives. 
 
In addition to her marketing expertise, Sarah has a deep understanding of the full recruitment process, project management, systems and process optimisation, and business planning. Her experience includes managing complex projects, streamlining operations, and designing effective business strategies that align with organisational goals.

Victoria Poppleton HR Client Services Team Leader - CIPD Level 5 

Victoria has been working within an SME Human Resources team where she gained vast experience in the day-to-day management of employees across an organisation in an HR capacity. 
 
With over 10 years of experience in administration across numerous sectors including retail, manufacturing, and logistics, and having managed a customer complaints team she loves working with people and problem-solving. 
She is a positive and determined person who will always aim to create the best outcome possible for the client while being clear and concise.

I am keen to help make workplaces work for both employer and employee. It is so important to get HR “right” in order to recruit and retain the right people for the business.

Flexible and analytical, she thrives on problem-solving and tackling challenges, always seeking the best outcomes for both employees and organisations.

Rachael Steele HR Coordinator - CIPD Level 3 

Rachael has a background in public services both at home and abroad, providing communities with front line emergency services as a medical dispatcher/advance medical technician.  
 
She has held various administrative positions within the healthcare sector. This experience has cultivated a strong desire to enhance the working environments for her colleagues and the broader workforce.  
 
To facilitate her transition into HR, Rachael independently pursued and completed a CIPD Level 3 certification, enabling her to channel her passion for assisting others into a practical and fulfilling career path.

Jill Gilby Associate 

Jill is a highly qualified educator with a BA (Hons) in Business and Management, along with an MA in Education.  
 
She spent over 20 years teaching business management, including courses in business planning for start-up SMEs. Jill also taught the PGCE to voluntary and community sector organisations. After years of teaching, she shifted her focus to quality assurance and compliance. 
 
Why do you work in HR? 
Having run her own business Jill understands the critical importance of effectively managing a company’s leadership and staff. Through her experiences, she saw first-hand how essential it is for businesses to have strong, well-managed teams. Jill is passionate about helping organisations realise the value of developing management skills and ensuring that staff are supported and nurtured. 
 
 
 

Becky Genney Client Engagement Assistant 

Becky holds a BA (Hons) in Business Management with experience in customer service, training, education, and quality assurance.  
 
She has led operations and staff training in the leisure industry, managed community and work-based learning projects in the social enterprise sector, and recently overseen vocational qualifications and quality assurance as Assistant Principal for Quality at a special school.  
Her career shows a passion for learning, people development, and driving quality improvement.

Jen has over 20 years’ experience within the learning and organisational development field. Working with a wide range of organisations, from large internationals to small non-profit charities to develop leadership and management skills. She has extensive experience supporting leadership and team development in both the public and private sector.  
 
She holds qualifications in business, education and organisational psychology to underpin her practice.
